“Jam session baking” by Maik

When we say the phrase “Coffee Culture”, I have to accept that Dresden is still in its development phase. It is not like Paris, Copenhagen, Malmö or Yerevan, where a cup of coffee is a ceremony and pleasure or some nice talk. So Dresden still needs time that people decide to hold on for a minute, enter a cozy place to have a good coffee and talk to the shopkeeper.

After checking a lot of cafes and coffee corners I came across Maik’s tiny coffee paradise.

In the middle of the Covid Crisis Maik and his companion decided to open their business. Within two days he made a quick decision and eight days later he was the owner of a little business. The little coffee corner Mahlgrad 156 opened its doors about nine months ago.

Maik had no idea how it was going to be and even more – he had no idea how to bake cakes.

He chose the best way and started to create his own pies.

As I entered his little cafe, he was pondering over a cheesecake and was thinking how to improve the consistency of the frosting. I guess that was a pure jam session in a round and sweet form. He encouraged me to try the multivitamin cake with selery, cucumber, dattel, and dry fruits. I was kind of skeptical but I took the step. And that was a good decision, because the pie was just awesome.

Maik is a real artist, he creates his own sweet artworks and they are never the same. So if you have the chance to enjoy a piece of pie by Maik, you have to be quick before it lands in a stranger’s stomach.

One impressive thing about Mike’s little coffee corner is the small art exhibition. He has even  organized some places to hang artworks of different local artists and supports them in selling them. So, guys, if you are art loving souls, just come over to have a look and enjoy the good coffee and creative pies by Maik next to  the tram station Dresden Mickten.
